There was something idyllic about the life that Sophia Storm’s family lead. Her father was a doctor, a surgeon, no less. And her mother, well, she was beautiful and young and vibrant. They owned a beautiful home on Long Island and they had three children. It was the perfect life in every sense of the word. Alfred Storm was well respected within the medical community, one of the top surgeons Mount Sinai Hospital and Maria Storm was a woman about the town, often taking her children into the city proper to explore culture and various other activities. The children were well behaved; Sophia a quiet, reserved, and polite little girl, while her siblings Jack and Brynn were known more as the free spirited type. Still, the three knew how to behave when in public and made sure they respected the wishes of their parents to a T.
Everything was not as it seemed on the outside, though. Alfred, stressed and going through an early mid-life crisis, started to unravel at the seams. Trips to Atlantic City were frequent, as were his mistresses, and his problem with alcohol was soon affecting his personal life. During a very important surgery, he showed up drunk and the woman died on the operating table. Given the circumstances of the events, he lost his medical license and was put on trial for manslaughter of his patient. Sophia was only eight years old when her father was taken from her and she couldn’t understand the complexity of the situation. While awaiting trial, her father committed suicide, seeing no possible way out of the situation, leaving behind his two children and a grieving widow. Maria found solace in a family friend, Robert Sinclair, a prominent CEO and businessman of a pharmaceutical company, and the two were married three years later. Robert officially adopted Sophia, Jack and Brynn and the three children took their new father’s name, Sinclair.
There were moments in Sophia’s life, particularly after the death of her father, that she wanted a way to open up. She had always adored the shows that her mother had taken her to in the city and her mother used this opportunity to sign her up for acting classes. She had been enjoying her acting classes and a new found sense of self-confidence when the unthinkable happened. As Maria was making her way into the city to meet with her husband for dinner, she was crossing the street and was the victim of a hit and run case. After being on life support for several days, Robert had to make the painful decision of pulling his wife from life support. The death of her mother was a lot to bear and Sophia retreated inward once again, entering her teen years with a mark that she never wanted to face. Even though Robert had adopted her, she was effectively an orphan, something that children at school sometimes teased her about, and she just decided to stay the course, keep her head down, keep on her studies, both in school and at acting class, and everything would be alright.
When it came time to look into colleges, Sophia knew she needed to get away from New York and move on with her life. Acting had become a central focus and her goal was to move out to Los Angeles to become a star. She enrolled at UCLA, studying theater arts, and she was finally able to go across the country where no one knew who she was. It was exactly what she needed and she relished in going to school and also would bartend on the side for extra money, though her step-father would also send more than enough money for her to survive and thrive. It was at one of her shifts bartending that she met a scientist, Richard Rush. He was smart, hardworking, and handsome, just about everything that a girl could have wanted in a potential boyfriend. The two exchanged phone numbers and quickly started dating. Once she finished up her degree at UCLA she tried to make it in Hollywood, dreams of stardom and a perfect life just within her grasp. However, Hollywood was a hard town and she found that she wasn’t landing anything beyond extra work and the occasional featured extra with a line here or there. Although she was defeated personally, Richard soon proposed and the two were married in the summer of 1999, right before he found out he would need to move across the country, to Boston, for work. Sophia used it as an opportunity to apply for graduate school at Boston Conservatory and get her Master’s Degree in Acting.
The move back to the east coast was better than she had ever anticipated it being and a breath of fresh air. Her husband’s social standing also made it so they were able to participate in many philanthropic causes and it was nice to be forced out of her shell of being that calm and quiet reserved girl. She had so much acting training that she could play the role and soon, her confidence started to improve. Now she was believing in herself and her husband was a little leery of the changes in his young wife but she was happy, smiling and telling jokes. It was almost as if a switch had been turned on in her brain and now she was finally the woman she was always meant to be.
Through this newfound sense of self-confidence, Sophia realized that being a housewife was simply not enough. Considering she had her Master’s Degree, her husband had suggested that she apply for a teaching position at a university, teaching acting to college students. That didn’t seem like the life that she wanted and, instead, she applied to teach acting and to direct a local high school’s plays and musicals. It was a perfect opportunity for her to get out of the house and do something with her life, since her husband was married to his job more than he was married to her. That took its toll on Sophia and one night, when she was out drinking with some girlfriends, she found herself cheating on her husband with a guy at the bar. Even though she did feel remorse for her actions, the thrill she got from the secrecy of it thrilled her. Although she wasn’t looking for some kind of relationship, she found comfort in the bed other men.
The once quiet and reserved Sophia Rush is no more and she is currently still privately coaching acting students on college auditions, as well as directing local high school musicals. For the past few years she has thought about going back to school to get her doctorate in theatre education but she’s never actually found a program that she has been thrilled with. She’s simply content in her life right now, even though her marriage is teetering on the point of disaster and she’s been keeping up with an affair with a man for some time now. It hasn’t stopped her from outwardly protecting her marriage, specifically within the affluent community in Boston. It’s her own little secret that could come crashing in on her at any time but she’ll get to it when that time comes.
